°2 pounds. Ground beef
°Salt and pepper or creole seasoning
°1 onion, chopped
°1 cup rice, uncooked
°3 large handfuls coarsely chopped cabbage
°1 8 oz. can tomato sauce
°2 cups water (I just use the can of tomato sauce twice)
°1 14 oz. can diced tomatoes, undrained
°1 cup shredded cheese (I used Colby Jack)


Season & browning ground beef also onions. Drain fat.
Once the onions are clear, add the rice, cabbage, tomato sauce, 2 c water (or use cans of tomato sauce) and diced tomatoes. Stir.
Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low and cover to simmer for about 20 to 30 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the cabbage is tender. Don't lift the lid for 20 minutes to make sure the rice cooks well.
